From any other writer, a satire about literary awards would be something to flee, but I'd follow Edward St Aubyn anywhere. His eighth novel, and his first non-Patrick Melrose book in fourteen years, Lost for Words [and Kindle] arrives in the US today after sharply dividing critics in Britain. Yesterday it was the surprise winner of the Wodehouse prize for literature that has a sense of humor. His fellow finalists were
- Sebastian Faulks, Jeeves and the Wedding Bells
- Helen Fielding, Mad about the Boy
- Hanif Kureishi, The Last Word
- John Niven, Straight White Male
- Joseph O'Connor, The Thrill of it All
Thanks for humor books! Bon anniversaire.
