Bizarrely, the fiction finalists were not Lahiri, McDermott, Kushner, Ozeki, or any of the other nominees for the National Book Award or the NBCC... they were The Son by Philipp Meyer and The Woman Who Lost Her Soul by Bob Shacochis. The Reporting prizes and full citations here.

FUN HOME is amazing. The author and creators and cast brought the musical to Charleston SC for a special show after our retrogressive, homophobic, misogynistic legislature cut funding from the local college for assigning it to incoming freshmen. Bubba Nation thrives here but there are people fighting back. Bechdel is a treasure.
