Announced today, the six titles on the shortlist for the Independent Foreign Fiction Prize are:
The Iraqi Christ by Hassan Blasim
Strange Weather in Tokyo by Hiromi Kawakami
My Struggle: Book Two: A Man in Love;[Kindle] by Karl Ove Knausgaard
A Meal in Winter by Hubert Mingarelli
Revenge: Eleven Dark Tales [Kindle] by Yoko Ogawa
The Mussel Feast [Kindle] by Birgit Vanderbeke
This is a vital award, worth your attention. Previously honored are Pamuk, Kundera, Sebald, and Petterson. Last year's winner was Ten White Geese [Kindle] by Gerbrand Bakker whose terrific gay novel The Twin [Kindle] won the IMPAC Dublin.
Not sure about "terrific", certainly The Twin is a very good novel. But aren't we past calling a work of literature whose protagonist happens to be gay a "gay novel"?
