He will... He will rock you? Ben Whishaw, who finally came out four months ago, has been tapped to play Freddie Mercury, who never did, in the beleaguered biopic of Queen's flamboyant gay superstar who died of aids twenty-two years ago. Expect his sexuality to be as whitewashed as the casting: Farrokh Bulsara was 100% Parsi, not a pale lad from Bedfordshire. Back when Sacha Baron Cohen was attached to play Mercury, the script was said to portray Mary Austin as the love of his life. Whishaw, who was a perfect Keats in Bright Star, a delightful new Q in Skyfall, and a multitude of queer in Cloud Atlas (including a gay composer and Hugh Grant's wife), will be Herman Melville in Ron Howard's adaptation of In the Heart of the Sea costarring Thor and Scarecrow.
Mandatory Mandela link: Queen was one of the few supergroups to break the boycott and play nine nights at Sun City.
