More splintering. The rise of new secession movements is featured at NPR, CBS, US News, Salon, and the NYT. Angry residents want to break off and form new states, like Northern Colorado. Although it's not going to happen, namely because it requires the approval of the hated state and of Congress, you shouldn't dismiss the level of discontentment.
Meanwhile, eight states continue to defy the government's new rules extending partner benefits to lgbt members of the National Guard in the wake of the Supreme Court's DOMA decision. To recap: Eight states are openly defying the military. In a speech last week, Chuck Hegel ordered full compliance. Texas said hell no. Likewise, Georgia, Florida, Mississippi, Louisiana, Oklahoma, South Carolina, and West Virginia continue to refuse.
In many reports, Indiana appears on the list, either because they were slow-walking the change or because they needed clarification. The Indy Guard insists they are complying. The others, no.
