won the Prix Goncourt.
Lemaitre was also a finalist for the Prix Renaudot, which Yann Moix won for his 1,152-page Naissance.
Three-time finalist and tonight's frontrunner Lisa Moore's novel Caught lost the Giller Prize to Lynn Coady's story collection Hellgoing. The judges were Margaret Atwood, Jonathan Lethem, and former winner Esi Edugyan.
