Stonewall Book Awards: YA Winner, Honor Titles

The Stonewall Book Award YA winner is Benjamin Alire Saenz's Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe [Kindle] about the unlikely friendship between two 15 year-old boys. Dante is confident and openly gay; Ari is always angry and unsure of who he is.

Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe is also this year's winner of the ALA's Pura Belpré Award for the best book that affirms Latino culture. Not sure if a gay book has ever won the Belpré before.

The committee chose four lgbt YA books as Honor Titles:

Raina Telgemeier, Drama

Hannah Moskowitz, Gone, Gone, Gone

Lesléa Newman, October Mourning: A Song for Matthew Shepard

S. J. Adams, Sparks: The Epic, Completely True Blue, (Almost) Holy Quest of Debbie
