What must Esi Edugyan do to get a US publisher to release her Half-Blood Blues? The novel is a Booker finalist and now appears on the Giller Prize short list. The only other title honored on both lists is also a second novel, Patrick deWitt's darkly rollicking The Sisters Brothers about a pair of professional killers in California in 1851.

Just finished Half-Blood Blues. It's a fantastic book and worthy of the Booker nomination. Reminded me of early Ishmael Reed.
