You probably know better than I, as you always do, but it seems to me as if Burroughs' wider acceptance began before his nomination to the Academy and Andrew Wylie taking him on, though they were important. Cities of the Red Night was published in 1981, followed by The Place of Dead Roads in '83 (and Western Lands in '87). I don't know what sales were like, but I do recall it creating quite a sensation at least among those who were already fans. It did sell enough for the pub to bring out the the 2nd (& then 3rd) volumes of the trilogy.
