Tonight at 7:00, debut novelist Matthew Gallaway will give a very brief reading then captivate you in a longer talk with New Yorker music critic Sasha Frere-Jones at McNally Jackson bookstore in SoHo. It's an inspired pairing because Matthew's gay-inclusive book The Metropolis Case [[Kindle]] is steeped in music, particularly opera, and both men are such polymaths they'll be able to discuss anything intelligently and deeply. Before he was a novelist, Matthew wrote the smart and delightfully long-winded blog The Gay Recluse. Before that, he graduated NYU Law, passed the bar, and joined the band Saturnine. His book was greeted on its pub date with a tremendous review in the NYT by a guest critic, Scott Timberg. A week later, the Onion critic differed sharply. See him, read him, and decide for yourself.
just got this for my (soon to arrive) Kindle! I'm an opera fan (not quite an opera buff much less an opera queen as of yet . . . since my love of it is relatively new). I'm very much looking forward to this as I'm sure it'll be quite up my alley.
