Jeanette Winterson has agreed to write a scary novella, the first book to be released from the newly formed publishing imprint of Hammer Films, a horror company. Hammer was founded in 1934 and achieved great success with fright pics staring Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee, but the company has been dormant for 30 years. Their debut comeback movie just flopped in the US, a flat and unnecessary English remake of the Scandinavian indie hit Let The Right One In. The film will be released in the UK next month. Not much word yet on the subject matter of Winterson's novella, though the publisher stresses the public's current insatiable craving for all things supernatural and praises Winterson as "one of the most exciting and inventive writers working in Britain today." The novella will be released next summer.
Looking forward to Winterson's new book. Can't wait!

Yes, I'm with SF Sex Toy...always eager to read more and more Winterson even if I have to wait until next summer. And as far as the "flat and unnecessary" US remake of the original Scandinavian film flopping stateside...author and scareflick fan Scott Heim thinks otherwise. Here's a recent "thumbs up" from his Facebook page: "wow-- LET ME IN totally won me over. I resisted seeing a remake of my favorite film of the past decade, but this was really, really great." Let's see if Scott ousts the fawning, ubiquitous and inevitable Peter Travers from any of the advertising quotes.
