Yesterday in Mexico City, via LA Times. One of the lesbian brides said, "I am overjoyed to finally be making this real. A different world is possible." Another bride's brother, 61, said, "I never in my life thought I'd see this. There is very strong change coming to my country. Very slowly, like everything here, but change is coming."
Not if the Catholic Church has its way. A local Cardinal called the new law, which also permits gay couples to adopt children, "perverse and immoral." He claimed the Mexican family was "under attack."
Mexico City's mayor attended the ceremony. Outside the Municipal Palace, demonstrators protested the happy couples' historic day. The antigay gathering was organized by a 29 year old actor(!) who said, "Mexican society is not capable of accepting this."
