You're absolutely right, Bedford is an amazing writer. In addition to the books you mention (and both QUICKSAND and DON OTTAVIO are excellent), I recommend A COMPASS ERROR, about a teenage girl's summer affair in the 1920s with a married woman on the Riviera. It's full of wonders, including the narrator's ability to talk of this fling as if it were typical for anyone.
