I'm about 1/2 way through the book and am completely swept away by Carpenter's life and ideas. But I'm consistently disappointed by Rowbotham's weak narrativization and especially her staid and uninspiring prose. Perhaps I'm spoiled by recently reading a brilliant biography of William James, but I fear that Carpenter himself is covering a myriad of a biographer's literary sins.
