Friends in Cambridge and Los Angeles forwarded me Tom O'Neil's article about the Academy Awards exclusively honoring gay roles whose characters suffer "ghastly deaths." He knows his Hollywood and lists twenty-eight nominations for playing gay (twenty-six of them for straight actors). Making a caveat for Capote, O'Neil points out that the winners invariably suffer horrible deaths.
Yesterday, O'Neil's article was reprinted in the Baltimore Sun. Here's hoping even more newspapers pick up this story.
