Exactly 95 years ago today in Vienna, Egon Schiele died in the Spanish flu epidemic that claimed 20 million lives across Europe. His wife, who was six months pregnant, died three days earlier. Egon was 28.
Although straight, Schiele lived far outside accepted sexual norms, scandalizing rural towns for his open lifestyle with his unmarried models and seducing girls who were not quite legal. He was arrested, convicted, and jailed for exposing minors to his art when he was 22.
He and the French duo Pierre et Gilles tie for the most images in Masculin / Masculin.
