Announced moments ago at a ceremony in London's medieval Guildhall, the Man Booker winner for 2012 is Hilary Mantel's Bring Up the Bodies [Kindle], the sequel to her Booker winning Wolf Hall. She is the first woman and the first British author to win two Bookers.
The other finalists were:
Tan Twan Eng, The Garden of Evening Mists
[Kindle]
Deborah Levy, Swimming Home
Alison Moore, The Lighthouse
[Kindle]
Will Self, Umbrella
Jeet Thayil, Narcopolis
[Kindle]
The judges were Dinah Birch, Amanda Foreman, Dan Stevens, Bharat Tandon, and chair Peter Stothard.
Bodies struck me as even better than Wolf, especially the wonderful execution sequence at the end where we are witnessing every chilling detail thrrough Cromwell's eyes.
