Italy's PM Mario Monti last month ratified the decision of the Roman Prefect to send the eternal city's garbage to a new dump located within a few hundred meters of Hadrian's Villa at Tivoli [left]. Critics warn the UNESCO World Heritage site will be permeated with its stench and hoards of gulls that are drawn to it. The best things you can do are sign the petition against it and read Marguerite Yourcenar's novel Memoirs of Hadrian fully detailing the emperor's love for Antinous.
