Oh, why not? It's New Year's Eve. One of the best gay Eastern European works of total fiction in the last couple years is Howard Roffman's Private Moments. He's created strong characters and memorable images in a jumbo tome that packs 260 pages. Back when we had gay bookstores, they were full of excellent, hard-to-find novels and drippy photo books that weren't good enough to be art and weren't exciting enough to be porn. Clearly, Roffman is no Herbert List or George Platt Lynes (whose recent collection The Male Nudes
should ennoble every gay man's library), but his color photographs are great. [Please forgive the poor selection and weak quality available online.] You're a sophisticated viewer; you can see when a fashion photo is about the dress and when it's about the celebrity wearing it; in the same manner, here you'll realize that even though Roffman's handsome models do everything (yep), his subject is actually camaraderie rather than carnality. But, as they say at circuit parties, the sex is fun, too.
Originally published in a whopping 8-1/4" x 12" format, the book has been re-released in a handier and less expensive edition at 7" x 10."
Please allow me to thank you once again for countless hours of pleasure, and not on the note this particularly pretty post.
I wish you the best in the new year.
A big, and grateful fan.
